Watching TV Without Pity is an article about the merging of two forms of audience participation and how the audience is no longer passive and is becoming active. Websites such as http://http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race/#start and http://http://abc.go.com/shows/greys-anatomy are examples.
There are also social networking sites that fall into the category of "active" audience particpation sites, such as MySpace and Facebook. Here are some examples:

They meet under the pretense of analyzing poetry, but soon showcase their own. Are they there for their love of poetry or for camaraderie? Hmmm the Dead Poet’s Society sure seems a lot like TWOP. Although it’s much more romantic in the movie essentially it’s the same activity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzG8CNMB2Us Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to embed it.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the article Watching Television Without Pity has a lot of good points. The way we interact is changing very rapidly and we are almost forced to become more active in the ways we respond to television. Not only if we miss one of our weekly television episodes can we go back to the internet and catch up, but we can also communicate with others about the show. A good example on how television is becoming more and more active is the new hit tv show Glee. It's pilot was the first of it's kind, premiering online.
